Let's test some values

Case i: y = 0.5
We get:
Quantity A: 0.5
Quantity B: (0.5)² = 0.25
In this case, Quantity A is GREATER

Case ii: y = -1
We get:
Quantity A: -1
Quantity B: (-1)² = 1
In this case, Quantity B is GREATER
