We have to be careful while solving such questions,

it is given that x>1 and y>1, but nothing about them but only +ve i.e. x and y can be integers or some numbers.

When x and y = 2 (integer)

Then col A : 1 / (1/2+ 1/2) = 1
col B : 1/2 + 1/2 = 1.

both same.

When x and y are some number , let both be 2.5.

then Col A : 2.5/2 = 1.25
Col B : 2/2.5 => 0.8 then A > B.

We have different relationships, so D.

Simplify the statements:
1/(1/x + 1/y)
= 1/(y+x/xy)
=xy/y+x This is statement A in simplified form

1/x+1/y
=y+x/xy This is statement B in simplified form

now test values, first take x = 2 and y=3
then second time test x=2.5 and y=3.5

2 different answers you will get hence option D
