Adding or removing the average from a set does not change the average of that set. So the sets {1, 2, 3} and {1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3} have the same average (2).

The average of the set {0, 2, 4, 5, 9} is \(\frac{0+2+4+5+9}{5} = 4\). So we can remove 4 without changing the average.
