Which of the following could be the equation of the parabola in the coordinate plane above?

(A) $$y = -x - 1$$
(B) $$y = x^2 + 1$$
(C) $$y = -x^2 - 1$$
(D) $$y = –x^2 + 1$$
(E) $$y = -(x - 1)^2$$

Only option D shows Y intercept 1, negative slope or a<0 ( parabola opens down) and some value of X (1, and -1) when Y equals 0. Thus this matches the graph. Is not it?

correct The negative in front of choice D indicates a parabola pointing downward from that vertex.
