$$\sqrt{36}$$ = 6

Hence, both $$\sqrt{38}$$ and $$\sqrt{45}$$ are greater than 6. This means that $$\sqrt{38}$$ + $$\sqrt{45}$$ is greater than 12.

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

We know that:
√36 = 6
√49 = 7

Since 38 is BETWEEN 36 and 49, we know that √38 must be BETWEEN 6 and 7
So, we can say √38 = 6.something

Likewise, since 45 is BETWEEN 36 and 49, we know that √45 must be BETWEEN 6 and 7
So, we can say √45 = 6.something

We get:
QUANTITY A: 6.something + 6.something
QUANTITY B: 12

Quantity A is greater.

Cheers,
Brent
