When the positive integer x is divided by 42, the remainder is 19. What is the remainder when x is divided by 7?
A. 0
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
E. 5
Here,
Let x= (42 * Q) + 19 (since dividend/divisor = quotient +reminder ; and Q= any positive number)
x = (42 * 2) +19 =103
since 103/42 gives a quotient 2 and reminder 19.
Now
103/7 gives a quotient 14 and reminder 5
This applies to any positive value of Q, hence reminder when \(\frac{x}{7}\) will always be 5
