Starting from the sums within the parentheses, we get \frac{7}{2}*\frac{7}{4} = 7*\frac{7}{8}.

Can someone explain why the answer is C? Shouldnt it be E. Even if you just plugin the equation into a calculator the answer is E.

The correct answer is 49/8, which is the same as 6\frac{1}{8} or 7*\frac{7}{8}, answer E. Notice that 6\frac{1}{8} is a mixed fraction and it is NOT the same as 6*\frac{1}{8} (option C).

You are right Bunuel. My mistake formatting the question. Often they are not so clear.

That way the answer is C. Not a number multiplied (*) for a fraction in the answer choices but five answer mixed fractions as answers.
