Blank 1: no idea... continue reading..
Blank 2: fill with an appropriate word attention/approval E. approbation works
evidence #1: once only collected.... have now.... indicates a time contrast
evidence #2: and often sell for tens of thousands of dollars at auction
Blank 3: these works (refers to Lowbrow art under discusson) to substitute more classic pieces at galleries and museums. H. supplant
Blank 1: At this point, it is clear that blank 1 should mean that the inarguable success A. esteem fits well

Note: The movement’s detractors need not be surprised - no idea why this was mentioned; I do not see any evidence as to why the critics were not surprised.
