Though question.

Here you do not have a very and clear clue that put you in a state to choose between.

I think because you need a much more strong word to highlight the overall sense. Catharsis is a purification of the sense so is correct. relief is " a feeling of happiness that something unpleasant has not happened or has ended".

it is not suitable for the purpose of the movie, what it does for.

Hope is more clear now.

I feel relief fits exactly well as the same way catharsis fits in the blank. But again when i reread the sentence i paused at the apposite phrase "eventually showcasing the elimination of all the protagonist's abusers". So now I am really okay with catharsis.
personal opinion. Any second thoughts carcass?
