Hello,

When the first sentence refers to 'foil,' that lets us know that the blanks are going to be relatively opposite to their accompanying persons. Therefore, the best opposite of a "staid accountant" is a "colorful musician"; a "tight-lipped divorcee" with "garrulous hitchhiker"; and an "introverted mathematician" with a "gregarious arriviste." I got the answers A, D, and H.

The last blank is a little more difficult than the others, as "unpredictable" might also work when describing someone opposite to a stereotypical introvert. However, "gregarious" is a better fit, as it refers to someone 'fond of company,' whereas introverts are often thought of as eschewing said company.

Two people are FOILS if one is the opposite of the other.

The accountant is staid.
staid = serious and boring.
Therefore, the musician must be NOT SERIOUS and NOT BORING.
The only viable option is colorful (A).
colorful = interesting and exciting.

The divorcee is tight-lipped.
tight-lipped = does not speak a lot.
Therefore, the hitchhiker must SPEAK A LOT.
The only viable option is garrulous (D).
garrulous = talks a lot.

The mathematician is introverted.
introverted = inward-looking, shy, reserved.
Therefore, the arriviste must be OUTWARD-LOOKING, NOT SHY and NOT RESERVED.
The only viable option is gregarious (H).
gregarious = enjoys being with other people.
