What is the least number of refrigerators that must be manu-factured and sold so that the amount received is at least equal to the manufacturing cost?

(B) 18
(C) 45
(D) 90
(E) 100

This equation can be looked at as representing the initial flat cost it takes to buy a fridge factory or something, which is $9000, and the fact that it costs$400 to make every fridge, and the fact that they are selling every fridge for \$500. Anyway, you can pretty much just set the cost equation equal to the revenue equation:

9000 + 400x = 500x

9000 = 100x

So x = 90. They need to sell 90 fridges to break even, and the answer is D.
