The average (arithmetic mean) of 11 numbers is 10.
We can write: (sum of all 11 numbers)/11 = 10
Multiply both sides by 11 to get: sum of all 11 numbers = 110

When one number is eliminated, the average of the remaining numbers is 9.3
We can write: (sum of remaining 10 numbers)/10 = 9.3
Multiply both sides by 1 to get: sum of remaining 10 numbers = 93

What is the eliminated number?
We now know that:
sum of all 11 numbers = 110
sum of remaining 10 numbers = 93

110 - 93 = 17
Since the two sums differ by 17, the number that was eliminated must be 17
