Since the author frequently ............. other scholars, his objection to disputes is not only irrelevant but also ............... .

the second part of the sentence suggests that the author's objection to disputes is irrelevant, so that means he or she often finds themselves into a quarrel. Only B and E fits this criterion.

"But also" means blank 2 should be similar to uncommon or astounding. Surprising fits well.

I have a question here, the first part of the sentence speaks about 'frequently' does that not mean that the phenomenon should be unsurprising?

No, the second part of the sentence is talking about the opposite of the phenomenon.

For instance, theBrahmaTiger adores ice-cream so much that his objection to eating sugar is not only wrong but also shocking.

Does that make sense?

The sentences says that the author frecuently ¨....¨and for that his objection to dispute is irrelevant and is ¨....¨. The last blank can be "surprising" while the first blank can be "attacks"
