Broadway audiences have become inured to ______________ and so ___________ to be pleased as to make their ready ovations meaningless as an indicator of the quality of the production before them.

As....as, this is a comparison structure. The sentence says that the audiences ovations have no meaning, and you can not judge the performance based on the audiences reactions. "ready ovations" means that they are not holding off their ovations, so that rules A,B, and C out. D's first answer doesn't fit in the context, because if you are clever then you won't be eager to please. This left us with E, If the audiences have become used to some mediocre play (or like Raptors performance), then they will cheer for anything! So desperate fits as well.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further doubts.
