[Reveal] Spoiler: Explanation
Answers: (B), (D)

’Accused him of plagiarism’ supports (B) lifted, for the first blank. (C) interpreted is not the same as plagiarism, which is actually the taking (or lifting) or text and trying to pass it off as one’s own. ‘Were not unknown to…’ matches up best with (D) dated.
We can simplify the part of the sentence around the second blank to this:

Even though the texts were __________, they were not unknown to specialists in the field.

So, the specialists still know about the texts. The best way to find this answer is to plug in the answer choices and see which one works best:

Even though the texts were prominent, they were not unknown to specialists in the field.

This doesn't work because if the texts were prominent, certainly the specialists would know about them. But the sentence states "even though," so this choice does not fit.

Even though the texts were uninformative, they were not unknown to specialists in the field.

At first, this looks like a slightly tempting answer choice. However, if we look elsewhere in the sentence, we see that Peyermessen was plagiarizing these texts--why would he plagiarize texts that are uninformative? Well, he most likely would not, and thus this is not the best answer choice.

This leaves us with "dated." Even though the texts were dated, they were not unknown to specialists in the field--So, even though the texts were old, specialists still knew about them. This answer choice is the best one.

Omitted is out of scope.

The sense is that Mister X plagiarized the work. As such, he lifted or stolen parts from somewhere else.

Hope this helps.
