Should I retake the GRE? [#permalink] New post 30 Nov 2019, 18:35
Hi everyone. I took the GRE last week (Nov 21st) and while I did pretty well on the verbal section (161) and written section (4.0), I did really bad on the math section with a 147. I'm trying to get into a geology MS program, and my undergrad GPA is only a 2.92, so I was hoping to do better. Most grad applications are due in January and February though, so if I do take it again I'm not going to have a TON of time to study. Is it worth it to try again? I'm really bad at math and I'm not feeling super confident that I'll be able to do much better... but idk. What should I do?

Hi and welcome to GRE Prep Club. The first good place to start answering that question is - what programs are you applying to and what is their average GRE Scores? What is their average GPA?

Have you done this research?

Hi, it's good that you have an idea on the deadlines for your program. Additionally, please go through the average or cutoffs of respective section or overall scores and those universities give rolling admits or not.
I personally think improving on quant from 147 to 157 is not a big deal with studying basics and effective practice.
Also, evaluate yourself whether you will be ready with all the relevant documents, GRE and TOELF/IELTS scores before the deadlines.
Bottom line, quant needs practice. If you are willing to spend time to practice, you will definitely see an improvement.

Mostly people face difficulty with the verbal section, so far you are doing pretty well. Just try to learn some maths by focusing on its fundamental concepts, therefore you will do pretty well
