Two areas of discussion in the first sentence: Nature and Nurture. “Comparable to” poised in between these two areas. As latter part of “Comparable to” talks about Nurture-Characteristic arises from experience, the first part must be related to Nature-Innate and Instinctive.

The key words here are "NATURE VS NURTURE" and COMPARABLE

In the nature vs nurture debate, we examine personality characteristics that people are BORN WITH (NATURE), and those characteristics that people DEVELOP THROUGH EXPERIENCE (NURTURE).

The part after the word COMPARABLE (...to those that arise through experience) covers the NURTURE side of the debate. So, the part before COMPARABLE must cover the NATURE side of the debate.

Let's predict INBORN (i.e., something people are born with) for the blank.

Check the answer choices....INNATE and INSTINCTIVE are good fits.

Answer: D, F

Cheers,
Brent
