Let Adams current age be \(y\).

If \(\frac{1}{2}x\) years ago Adam was 12:

\(y -\frac{1}{2}x = 12\)

and \(\frac{1}{2}x\) years from now he will be 2x years old

\(y+ \frac{1}{2}x = 2x\)

Solve for \(x\) and \(y\)

x = 12 y= 18

how old will he be 3x years from now?

\(y + 3x = 18 + 3*12 = 54\)

Hence A is correct answer.
