Quant 170, Verbal 158, AWA 4. Retake? [#permalink] New post 07 Aug 2016, 15:38
Hi all,

I am aiming for entrance to the top 1/2 Statistics PhD programmes in the US. My first GRE attempt with no practice gave the result of: Quant 170, Verbal 158, AWA 4. I am a native English speaker and have a good academic background for these programmes. Would the lower Verbal and AWA scores affect my chances for admission to top programmes (given that I am applying for a mathematical PhD programme?). I am confident that I can improve my verbal and AWA scores by practising (I am a native English speaker), but given the high exam fees and required preparation time would it still be worth retaking the exam? Would appreciate advice for any who might have knowledge about how graduate schools perceive the GRE scores.

Thanks!

Quant programs like statistics are more concerned with your Quant scores than verbal. I am pretty sure you can easily get admission is University of Philadelphia or any Quant PhD programs in Pennsylvania. Very good schools there.

This is just based on your GRE score. A 170 in quant is guaranteed an interview for you provided your other materials are good enough as well.

Are these the average?

I am planning on applying to MIT program in Business Analytics, can I get in with a Quant score range of 157-160?
