The new particles of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider last a millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second. A millionth meaning a microsecond. Thus it can be understood from the further part that the particles last for a very short time. Hence we need a synonym of very short time- ephemeral and fleeting are those 2 synonyms.
