Explanation

You are given that y is a number that is less than –6. Since –6 is less than –5, it follows that y is less than –5.

Thus the correct answer is Choice B.

Hi,

sorry but you are wrong.
First of all, this is an official question, so as it is, is right.

Secondly, it does not matter that y is or not an integer. Because, B on the number line is ALWAYS bigger.

Even if y is 5.000000001 B is always bigger. In this case, our Y is less than -6. As such, if Y is or not an integer is not our concern.

Hope this helps.

Do not hesitate for asking if something is still unclear.

regards

Hey

$$-5.3 > -6$$. So that would violate my questions set condition.

We're told that y < –6
We also know that -6 < -5

So, we can COMBINE the inequalities to get: y < -6 < -5
From here, we can see that y < -5

Cheers,
Brent
