Hello,

I am preparing for the GRE and initially I was going to take the computer-based GRE; however, I am a pencil on paper kind of student, so I have found time consuming to make all the notes I am used to on the computer based practice tests.

Would you recommend taking the paper based test?

HELP!!

Thank you,

Lucy

Hello Lucy,

Paper-delivered GRE® revised General Test administrations are offered up to three times a year in areas of the world where computer-delivered testing is not available. You can register for a paper-delivered administration online or by mail.

While I understand that you maybe comfortable with the testing conditions of a paper based test, I would not recommend it. Because,

The Paper based GRE test is administered only 3 times a year. This is a serious bottleneck if you choose to retake the test after the first attempt. The dates of these tests are October 17th November 7th and February 6th.

If your location has a Computer based test center you will be redirected there. So you have to register and take the test from a center where computer based option is not available. This is a major hassle.

Fundamentally the test is same as the computer based GRE but paper GRE has more questions/ Section; each section has 25 questions as opposed to 20 of Computer based tests.

If you still wish to go ahead with paper based GRE here I am attaching a link to the test centers and and a link to the ETS paper GRE prep manual.

Choose wisely and Best of Luck

Sandy I found the OGRE paper based test questions MUCH easier than the equivalent adaptive test. The pacing is also shorter per question which implies an easier set of questions. Is there any evidence that the paper based or computer based is harder?
