Explanation

The second part of the sentence talks about the author agreeing that the book can be improved after the things named by Blank (ii) are pointed out; therefore, the answer to Blank (ii) must denote something negative whose presence calls for improvement. The only answer choice for Blank (ii) that is negative in meaning is “transgressions,” so it is correct. Book reviews that point out the author’s transgressions are negative in nature, so the answer to Blank (i) must be negative in meaning; the only answer choice that meets this condition is “adverse,” so it is correct. Thus the correct answer is adverse (Choice B) and transgressions (Choice E).

Since the major approach of tackling sentence completion section is "Sentiment Analysis", one can argue that "at best" has a negative connotation. Therefore, in the first blank, we have to choose a word that has a negative sense and that is "adverse". Also, after comma, there is no shifter or anything that changes the atmosphere of the previous sentence. As a result, the sense of the second blank must parallel to that of the first blank, suggesting that the second blank also have a negative connotation and that is "transgressions".
