Explanation

\(0.75 \times m = 18.00\)

\(m = \frac{18.00}{0.75} = 24\)

Thus the correct answer is Choice E.

We are given that Marie earns $0.75 PER MILE. Since rate x miles = total dollars, we can create the following equation to determine the number of miles walked.

0.75 x miles = 18

miles = 18/0.75

miles = 18/(3/4)

miles = 18 x 4/3 = 24

Answer: E

We can also use EQUIVALENT RATIOS
For every 1 mile, Marnie earns $0.75
We're comparing miles and money earned.

So, one way to set it up is miles/$
We have: 1/0.75 = x/18
Cross multiply to get: 0.75x = 18
Divide both sides by 0.75 to get: x = 24
