Maribel must divide 60 candies among herself and her 12 cousins, although there is no requirement that the candies be divided equally. If Maribel is to have more candies than everyone else, what is the least number of candies she could have?

60 candies if divided equally among her cousins, each would get 5.

Now she has to take from these guys to become the person owning highest number of candies.

SO she can take 6 from any of her cousins to own highest number of candies.

Her cousins may or may not have equal number of candies. We have divided the candies equally to make sure they get least number of possible candies per head. If one person is given 4, someone else would get 6. The the lady who is supposed to get highest number of candies should own 7 candies. But as the question asks for least number of possible candies she can own, this is the approach.
