I don’t get it. I read this sentence 10 times over a few days and still don’t get it. Can someone establish the timeline of this sentence here - which action happened before which?
It may be that most of this film footage was shown somewhere, but the documentary is designed to make audiences feel that this footage has never been seen, or that, having been seen, it was deliberately _____________.
I don’t get the 2nd part, starting with the but, and can’t establish which action happened before which.
…, but the documentary is designed to make audiences feel that this footage has never been seen, or that, having been seen, it was deliberately censored.
How can it be both: make the footage appear never-seen-before and the footage (it) was deliberately censored when showing to the audience? It just does not make sense in terms of meaning to me
Or should I assume that the footage had somehow been censored BEFORE? And that on this occasion, they will show a version uncensored.
If I’m not mistaken, this small part “ it was deliberately censored” is related how they want audience to feel. If I join these two small parts I get “ the documentary is designed to make audiences feel that, having been seen, it was deliberately censored.” Even with this, I still don’t get the timeline like I mentioned above. How do you know which action happened before which action? Maybe grammar is the thing I may have missed here.
