In the figure above, $$LMNO$$ and $$GHJK$$ are rectangles where $$GH = \frac{1}{2}LM$$ and $$HJ= \frac{1}{2} MN$$. What fraction of the region bounded by $$LMNO$$

(A) $$\frac{1}{4}$$

(B) $$\frac{1}{3}$$

(C) $$\frac{1}{2}$$

Here,

Let LM = 4 and MN = 8

therefore, GH = $$\frac{1}{2} * LM = \frac{1}{2} * 4 = 2$$

and HJ = $$\frac{1}{2}* MN = \frac{1}{2} * 8 = 4$$

Area of GHJK = $$2*4 = 8$$ [ Area of Rectangle = length * breadth]

and Area of LMNO = $$4 *8 = 32$$

Area of the unshaded region = $$32 -8 = 24$$
Therefore,

fraction of the region bounded by $$LMNO$$is NOT shaded = $$\frac{24}{32} = \frac{3}{4}$$
