Sure Sir.

Dissect the question piece by piece

In medieval Europe, watermills were more (i)_____ than windmills.

of this is a pure fact. Just information. During the middle age, the water (something, I assume the wheel to produce bread, the old factories, anyway what is) were more (i) looking at the first blank I do not have so many clues. The first sentence is too short and the 3 options seem good alike. Move on. maybe we will have more hints going ahead.

It is true that windmills could be built virtually anywhere, whereas watermills (ii)_____.

here we do have a HUGE contrast: windmills did and were suitable for one purpose and watermills were better in other scenarios. MMhhh Now we are going to figure out something very important and remarkable to us.

However, looking at the 3 answer choices they do not really show me the right pick. Ok, move on and fast. remember: all this process seems at first glance a waste of time but indeed is the fastest way to grasp the overall meaning of the sentence. keep the faith. We do have a general idea and this is a lot. More than you think.

However, watermills' greater capacity and reliability provided a better (iii)_____ the money required to build the mill.

Ah-ha here we go. We do have the word however that shows a clear shift in the overall sense of the sentence. watermills are better than windmills becauseee ???
because their return on (R.O.I return of investment) I. E. watermills are more profitable (notice here the word profitable how I have been anticipating the correct option in the first blank, and I do not even reach the first blank ) than windmills. So far so good. I told you: all from now is easier.

Back to the second blank: of the 3 options required a good deal of upkeep is not possible because we are talking about the watermills and windmills have positive or negative sides (both) based on the locations where are they built. Moreover, with this in mind (and because we are talking also or ROI), E inspired a variety of new technologies is out of scope. D must be the answer.

Back to the first blank: we are NOT talking about problems or if they are versatile (could be useful for several purposes besides their main purpose) but we are talking about: locations, construction, money, and so forth. The answer must be B: profitable.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience

well,

this is an official question. Therefore, you should have questions of this level, which already hard.

Hope this helps.
