The ratio of 2x to 5y is 3 to 4
We can write: 2x/5y = 3/4

What is the ratio of x to y?
In other words, what is the value of x/y?

Take: 2x/5y = 3/4
Cross multiply to get: (4)(2x) = (3)(5y)
Simplify: 8x = 15y
Divide both sides by y to get: 8x/y = 15
Divide both sides by 8 to get: x/y = 15/8

We can also write: x : y = 15 : 8
Or we can write: x to y = 15 to 8

Answer: 15 to 8
