Explanation

Use the notation “f(x)” and “f(2)” as an indication to substitute 2 for x in the given equation:

$$f(2) = (2)^2 + 1$$
$$f(2) = 5$$

Likewise, plug –2 in for x:

$$f(–2) = (-2)^2 + 1$$
$$f(-2) = 5$$

Now add: 5 + 5 = 10.

Hence option E is correct!
