If $$a^3$$ + $$b^2$$ = $$73$$, then which of the following are the possible answer choices?

1. a + b = 7

2. a − b = 2

3. ab = 12

4. 2a − 3b = −1

5. 3a + 5b − 6 = 21

Is there a faster way than trying to substitute numbers to solve this one? I got the answer but it took some time

This is not a GRE question. Ideally in this case we have to find numbers which sattisfy this equation and the uderlying assuption seems to be that this is a natural number.

So we take a= 1, 2, 3, ..... and see where we get a natural number for b.

At a=4 we have b=3.

However its not mentioned a and b are natural numbers so this equation can have many soutions.
