This calls for some prime factorization

5000 = (2)(2)(2)(5)(5)(5)(5)
= (2^3)(5^4)

So, we can write: (2^3)(5^4) = (2^x)(5^y)
We can see that x = 3 and y = 4

This means x + y = 3 + 4 = 7
