Here;

$$4(-3x - 8) = 8(-x + 9)$$

or $$(-3x - 8) = 2(-x + 9)$$

or $$-3x -8 = -2x + 18$$

or $$x = -26$$

or $$x^2 = (-26)^2$$ = 676

Explanation

Distribute, group like terms, and solve for x:

4(–3x – 8) = 8(–x + 9)

–12x – 32 = –8x + 72

–32 = 4x + 72

–104 = 4x

–26 = x

Then, multiply 26 by 26 in the calculator (or –26 by –26, although the negatives will cancel each other out) to get $$x^2$$, which is 676.
