In the Gre, should I try to get more questions correct in a section or should I give more preference to the tough questions as in the gmat. Does every question in a single section carry equal marks?

The GRE is different from the GMAT. It is not a question adaptive test: the next question you have to answer is harder or easier. The GRE is section adaptive.

So, you wondering is meaningless. You should answer every question, then if you do well the next section is more difficult as a whole.
