Hi there. I took the GRE in November, and am planning on retaking Monday. I had an awful Quant score but a relatively good Verbal (30% and 76% respectively) and a 4 on the writing. Do Crim Phd programs care so much about the quant score? Im looking at John Jay and Mich State. I spoke with people on the admissions committees at both schools and got different opinions. One said that since I got good grades in my undergrad Statistics courses I should be with an outlier on the GRE. The other one did not have an opinion on it. I just wanted to get some other opinions and hear other peoples stories. Thanks.

You should see the threshold of the GRE in that particular PhD in that particular school.

Does not matter your previous course.

Your verbal score is going to mean more to them, as long as you can demonstrate (via your grades) that you can handle STATs. The schools want to be sure that, if admitted, you're going to be able to keep up with the coursework. As an adcom, the worst scenario is always admitting a student who's going to fail out because they don't have the background / skills to succeed.

Hope that helps!
