Since the mean of 6 grades is 75, the sum of this grade is equal to 6*75 = 450. Then, we can check the answers by subtracting them from 450 and dividing by 5, the number of remaining grades. Since the answers are in increasing order we should start by answer C to have an idea of the direction in which we should move.

Using C, we would get (450-30)/5 = 84, too low. This means that we are subtracting a too high grade. Then, we should move up. Let's try with B.

Using B, we obtain (450-25)/5 = 85. Here we are. Answer B is the right one!

avg=sum/no
6*75=450
5*85=425
450-425=25

We know that the sum of her scores is 6 x 75 = 450. From this total, one score (let’s call it n) will be dropped, leaving (450 - n) as the new sum. We know that because of the dropped score that the new average is calculated with the 5 remaining scores, and the new average is 85. We can create the equation:

[(6 x 75) - n]/5 = 85

450 - n = 425

25 = n

1st Average: (Camile Total)/6 =75
2nd Average: (Camile Total)/5 - X =85

-X=(85*5)-(75*6)
x=25
