Although economists have traditionally considered the district to be solely an agricultural one, the (i) _______ of the inhabitants' occupations makes such a classification obsolete.

The word Although at the beginning of the sentence introduces a contrast between the view or consideration of the economists and the actual reality. And the economists have traditionally considered the district to be solely an agricultural one. So the reality should be that the district has many other occupations for its people other than just agriculture. And the only word choice that can give that meaning is diversity.

Although economists have traditionally considered the district to be a solely agricultural one, the diversity of the inhabitant's occupations makes such a classification obsolete.
