Half of 2400 students take calculus and half not. So we have 1220 students taking calculus and 1200 students taking English composition. One third of students taking calculus also take English composition, i.e. 1200/3 = 400 students take both.

Thus, if we are asked how many students take English composition we have 1200 taking only it + 400 taking both calculus and English = 1600. Answer E
