Let x = the price (in dollars) of 1 ADULT ticket
So, 0.5x = the price (in dollars) of 1 CHILD ticket

If 5 adult tickets and 8 children’s tickets cost a total of $27, what is the cost of an adult ticket?
We can write: 5x + 8(0.5x) = 27
Simplify: 5x + 4x = 27
Simplify: 9x = 27
Solve: x = 3

So, an ADULT ticket costs $3

Cheers,
Brent
