Let us say there are 8 candies namely A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H

we are supposed to pick 3 piece for each pack. However order does not matter. In other words if we have a 3 pack candies as ABC we cannot have another pack as BAC they would be same. Hence this is a combination problem.

so the ans would be 8c3 or option B

Would AABC be exactly 3 different types of candy? I think the problem should specify the gift pack size

But how AABC - can be exactly 3 different types of candy?

The ques :: "How many different gift packs containing exactly 3 different candy types "

We need exactly 3 not 1 , 4 , 5 , 6 ...
