1 piece at a time at 7 cents a piece
5 pieces at a time at 30 cents for the 5 pieces

 Quantity A Quantity B The greatest number of pieces of this gum that can be purchased with 87 cents The greatest number of pieces of this gum that can be purchased with 82 cents

A)The quantity in Column A is greater.
B)The quantity in Column B is greater.
C)The two quantities are equal.
D)The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

My approach was as below (a bit lengthy)
Quantity A:
To spend 87 cents you can have the following distribution
(30*0,7*12) -> 0+12 = 12 pieces
(30*1,7*6) -> 1*5 + 8 = 13 pieces
(30*2,7*3) -> 2*5 + 3 = 13 pieces
So the maximum is 13 pieces

Quantity B:
To spend 82 cents you can have the following distribution
(30*0,7*11) -> 0+11 = 11 pieces
(30*1,7*7) -> 1*5 + 7 = 12 pieces
(30*2,7*3) -> 2*5 + 3 = 13 pieces
So the maximum is 13 pieces

So option C.. QA = QB
