Re: A book with 80,000 words costs $24 and a short story has 1,0 [#permalink] 25 May 2018, 21:23 2 This post received KUDOS If a story has 1,000 words costs$1, then a a story has 24 times as many words will cost 24 TIMES as much.
In other words, a short story with 24,000 words will cost $24. Compare this to the book with 80,000 words that costs$24.
Both now cost $24, but the short story has far fewer words. That means the price per word of the short story is greater than the price per word of the book. Explanation

In Quantity A, $$\frac{24}{80000}$$ = 0.0003, or 0.03 cents per word.

In Quantity B, $$\frac{1}{1000}$$ = 0.001, or 0.1 cents per word.

Quantity B is greater. Note that the calculation was not strictly necessary—it would have been more efficient to notice that the book costs 24 times the story but has 80 times the words. (Then remember to choose the greater number!)

Hence option B is correct!
