 Quantity A Quantity B The length of segment RS 2.5

First, note that segment RS = y. So, instead of considering Quantity A as RS, think of it as y. Now, just solve algebraically for y.

Based on the figure we know that y + z = length RT = 4 and that 3y - z = 8 . Then, stack and solve to eliminate z in a system of equations.

3y - z = 8
+ (y + z) = 4
4y = 12

Divide the equation by 4 to find that y = 3. Therefore, Quantity A > 2.5 so select Choice A.
