Notice that every denominator is a power of 3: 27, 9, and 81. So it should be easy to make a common denominator in all fractions. Let's make it 81.

Quantity A can therefore be rewritten as 81/81 - 3/81, giving us 78/81.

Quantity B can be rewritten as 72/81 + 1/81, giving us 73/81.

Thus, A is larger.

Given:
Quantity A: 1 - 1/27
Quantity B: 8/9 + 1/81

Rewrite all values with a common denominator of 81
We get:
Quantity A: 81/81 - 3/81
Quantity B: 72/81 + 1/81

Simplify to get:
Quantity A: 78/81
Quantity B: 73/81

Cheers,
Brent
